Kharlovka week 30 ending 28th of July 2017

Despite the sudden change of weather with cool winds from the north producing foggy conditions that delayed weekend transfers by several hours – last weeks group of 14 guests (Hosted by Roddy Hall the manager for Farlows Travel) – went on to have an exciting week releasing a total of 195 salmon before the big celebration on the Friday evening. Up – Up and Away! Following the record winter snowpack and spring thaw – the summer season has now caught...

Kharlovka week 25 ending Friday 23 June 2017

With water levels peaking back on their opening day at a massive 149cm which is about a meter higher than normal for this time of year, the group stared out the windows in amazement at the swollen rivers below and pondered their chances upon arrival -’like finding a needle in a haystack’. Thankfully – while there must have been a few monsters swimming up the thick currents in the middle, there turned out to be plenty of big silver lining the banks of the...

Rynda week 23 ending 9th of June 2017

This was the first week of the season 2017. The short description leading up to our opening week could be ‘Record amounts of snow along with a very-very late spring’. Snow levels along the northern coast topped an 80-year high last winter. This in addition to the late arrival of spring with the low air temperatures for most of May has produced low water conditions and huge snow banks to start the season. Nevertheless this certainly was not a barrier for the 6 crazy spring...

Kharlovka week 23 ending Friday 9 June 2017

Following a frigid opening week of the season, and with cold late spring conditions predicted to continue through into the second week, we decided early on to limit the number of guests down to our three amigos Chuck – Ulrich and Thomas to allow more of the snow to melt and the rivers to fully open up. Thankfully the forecast was underestimated for our last guests and like unexpected gift the days gradually warmed through a mostly sunny week with air temps from 5 to...

Kharlovka week 22 starting 27th of May 2017

Following a record 80 year high winter with loads of snow and ice, spring did make a brief appearance back in middle May with air temps up to a promising 10C. Unfortunately this warm window only lasted a couple of days. While the rivers were slowly beginning to open up, the north coast has basically experienced freezing conditions ever since. Faced with a challenging forecast leading up to our first week of the season that included strong cold winds and additional snow, we...

Trout Fishing Report 5A – 2016

Once again a unique brown trout experience for a group of fly-fishermen staying at Swan Isles in Litza during 23 – 30 of July. We had great and difficult fishing and caught 119 trout larger than 1 kg. Our “newbie” Frank topped the catch with a new personal best of 3,5 kg. Again our warmest thanks to Mr. Kola, our guide Luganscky Volodya and the rest at Kharlovka Company. Our guide Luganscky proved again to be a very experienced brown trout fisherman, as well as an...

Trout Fishing Report 4C – 2016

I have been to the Kola Penninsula 6 times- first time in 1996 – and it gets better and better, much because of the strict rules by Kharlovka, and dedicated flyfishers who visit. I am really proud of being a part of this. Some fun facts: Everyone in our group passed the magical 3 kilo brown trout. That is pretty insane, even when it comes to wild trout Kola Penninsula standards. We also had an average size of 2.6 kilos. That is even more insane when it comes to brown...

Trout Fishing Report 4A – 2016

We have just come back from an amazing trip to the following camps Mystic in Litza and Dream Kharlovka. The week were amazing and we had many moments regarding fishing, amazing photo light in evenings and all sorts of weather. As you can see from the group picture, we had tropical trout fishing weather on the tundra most of the week. The men in waders posing on the picture from left is Emil Westrin, Geir Krovoll, Luganscky Volodya (our chef and tundra expert), Tom Tuskin...

Rynda week 27 ending 1st of July 2016

As fisherman and nature lovers we are always up to the elements, elements such as rain wind snow and sun. Not only does we get affected by it but so does the fish, the river and the countryside. With summer now in full swing in the far north coast we are faced with bright blue skies. Air temperature pushing high 20’s and water temperature raising daily, and so the water level also dropping at an alarming rate. As Salmon fishermen we are prepared to spend hours at end just...

Kharlovka week 24 ending 10th of June 2016

Last week was amazing! There were 12 guests from 9 different countries who were mostly returning Kharlovka veterans. The team had to endure absolutely nasty conditions that included super winds from the north gusting to 70km/hr, cold rain sleet and snow with temps of about 3-4C along with rising rivers of 20-25cm which took the level up to 54cm which was 8cm more than we had to start the season 2 weeks ago. In addition, river temps went from a balmy 10C back down to a more...
