Kharlovka week 23 ending 3rd of June 2016

Springtime on the far northern coast is for believers only – and this season, with some hard work, determination, and a lot of luck, all their dream came true! Please click on any of the pictures to enlarge them. Last Thursday we packed up the helicopters in St. Petersburg with all the secret flies and kit to start the season. We flew 1015km for a total of 7 hours, stopping the first time to rendezvous with our fuel truck on the only highway going north in the middle...

Trout Fishing Report Week 34a – 2015

Back row from the left: Bård, Karsten, Kurt, Ole, Monrad, Andre. Front row from the left: Rune, Gena. After having visited the arctic tundra for 12 years my favorite period of time has become mid to late august. Catches are always good, the weather normally very stable and water levels perfect. This year turned out to be the best ever. Not necessarily regarding catches, we caught 70 fish from 1 kg up to 4.3 kg, but the total experience. Warm days with cool nights kept the...

Trout Fishing Report Week 33b – 2015

First Knee, Running Our week started in the usual fashion; with the flight to Kirkenes, after which a minibus took us the rest of the way to Murmansk where we stayed the night, as is custom to these trips. We were happily surprised to learn that the last leg of our journey to Rynda camp from the airport in Murmansk was to be by helicopter and not by minibus. The weather forecast for our week was not at all promising – just as dreary as it had been all summer, so we were...

Rynda week 32, ending 7th of August

The closing week at Rynda camp was very joyful with extremely cheerful and entertaining guests from different countries. Fishing was up and down but with passion to the fishing, guys achieved good results. The weather was not kind to the fishermen for the first half of the week. But it was not a big issue for Atlantic Salmon anglers. Especially for our crazy team! They could combine good evening parties with great persistence and inventive power on the river. Many fish...

Rynda week 31, ending 31st of July

Please click on pictures to enlarge. A wonderful cheerful team of French anglers ‘flooded’ Rynda camp this week. The only language we tried to use during the whole week was French. Tough job! Piam, the group leader, was guiding his team through the difficult weather conditions. However, bad weather never could drop the true fisherman spirit! Every evening good-sized salmon along with fresh grilse were entering in the Rynda lodge book. In the column ‘Fly pattern’ mostly...

Trout Fishing Report Week 30b – 2015

By André Brun (group leader) This year’s group was all good friends who had been here before with me. This year we went to Wulf and First Knee. I knew it would be a perfect bunch of flyfishers together. And it really was. Here are the hard facts: - 42 brown trout passing 1 kilo. - Average size was fantastic 2,2 kilo. - Biggest one 3,8 kilo. - Not much insects and rising trouts, but I guess they already had somewhat keyed on the surface, so they were rising regularely...

Trout Fishing Report Week 29c – 2015

Members: Otto Werner Eilertsen, Jon Krekling, Odd Stickler, Tormod Hvidsten, Leif Johansen, Helge Antonsen We arrived at kharlovka lake campsite around 9pm Saturday on the 11th July. The group was very excited to come back to this upper part of Kharlovka river. Helge, Leif and Otto had the pleasure of fishing this part last year while it was the first time at this camp for Jon, Tormod and Odd. This year we decided to move the camp some kilometers upstream and closer to the...
