Kharlovka Fishing Week 30 – 2013

Despite the dark clouds that settled over the north coast of the Kola peninsula last weekend, team Kharlovka managed to pull together and produce some of the best results of the summer. Returning for back for round three, it was a pleasure to see our energetic Norwegian friends back again. This small group of veterans were accompanied by Jimmy and Charlie from Britain and the USA, in addition to a few eager Danes that included young Cornelius (12yr) who turned out to be the...

Trout Fishing Week 30B – 2013

The short story was that 4 experienced fly-fishermen had great fishing catching 72 trout larger than 1 kg (best 4,1kg) during extreme low water conditions at Dream Kharlovka with water temperature ranging from 12-14 degrees C. This year was really joyful with a new and unexpected challenge in terms of fishing the low waters. Many thanks to Kharlovka Company and our guide. The group (from left): Alf Sollund (Norway – group leader), Genady Shelayg (Russia, our guide), Martin...

Trout Fishing Week 29B – 2013

Running Pool & Pina. Group Leader: André Brun This has been a fantastic week in many ways. Fishing with a very nice group of flyfishers, I’ve met some life-long friends during this week. We’ve had a great time together; fishing a lot, but also laughing a lot. A lot. Telling stories, and recapitulating todays happenings into the late hours. Every day. Having a good time in between all the fishing, is also a good part of a great flyfishing experience. That...

Rynda Fishing Week 29 – 2013

Guest report by Pálmi Gunnarsson. Stepping out of the helicopter, briefly looking down over the Rynda lodge, to the lake and Rock Island, be greeted by all the friendly faces that I know so well, made me feel good and like at home. My friend Kola introduced me to my fishing partner Vadim Titovets from Belarus, and we clicked from the first handshake. The party consisted of one Icelander and a group of fishermen from Russia and Belarus. * After weeks of Mediterranean like...

Kharlovka Fishing Week 29 – 2013

Mikael Frodin Summer Master Class Last week they arrived from far and wide to join us on the Kharlovka for the Mikael Frodin summer master class. Our latest ten man team included three jolly Norwegians, a husband and wife duo from Russia, good old Ken from America, mr guideline from Austria, a great Dane, along with a couple of sneaky Swedes. Although we didn’t receive the storm that they were predicting to begin the week, the conditions were basically perfectly...

Trout Fishing Week 28D – 2013

Rynda Mystic From left: Joakim, Rupert, Jan Erik, Vasillijev, Kjetil (group leader), Marius and Torleiv (sitting) The tundra adventure started with heavy rain and wind. We had a hard time getting the tents and lavo up. The lower Rynda camp is nice and has a stretch of river just outside the camp. Our English salmon fisher, now dedicated trout boum, Rupert caught the biggest around 2,5 kilos at Rynda. We took the boat downstream over the lake and fished the river and pools....

Rynda Fishing Week 28 – 2013

Guest report by Sue Mills and Tim Gray It never became clear precisely what a small Irish contingent, destined for other Kola Peninsula rivers, was celebrating……if that is the polite euphemism. It cannot have been the rugby as the Lions had not by then won. Surely it cannot have been Wimbledon as we simply cannot recall any tradition of Irish tennis. Perhaps it is similar to French Cricket. And The Ashes remains a total secret as we write. Either way one...

Kharlovka Fishing Week 28 – 2013

Following nearly one month of non-stop hot sunny conditions, the weather finally broke just in time for the arrival of our latest group of guests. It was obvious from the very beginning when twelve of Vladimir’s best Russian fly fishing friends (along with good old English Joe) all piled off the big helicopter that we would certainly be in for a memorable week. Half of them we recognised straight away as they had been a part of the recent grand opening in St....
