Trout Fishing Week 30B – 2012

We have just come back from another fantastic trip to Kola Peninsula with Kharlovka Company. The group visited Swan camp at Litza and Dream Pool Kharlovka. The group this year consisted of almost the same as last year with one new fisherman. The group consisted of persons that are fishing together in a river in Austria but come from different countries and a group leader from Norway. Here is our group from left: Tom Tuskin (Group Leader), Igor (our Russian guide), Karol...

Kharlovka Fishing Week 29 – 2012

While the vast majority of the staff have been claiming the Kharlovka camp as their ‘home’ for more than 15 years now and might have thought that they had pretty much seen it all before, last week reminded us again just how extreme Mother Nature can be when you come to live and play along the far northern coast. We started out the week searching for our oils and sprays again with bright sunny skies and the temperatures soaring to 30 degrees in the shade. With...

Rynda Fishing Week 28 – 2012

Guest Report by Sue and Tim 12 rods – aged recidivists and neophytes were slightly delayed leaving Murmansk airport but worries about missing the first evening fishing expressed by the novices were quickly dismissed by the returnees who assured them that, come what may, we would be welcomed, fed and out on the river that evening. So it proved, after a welcome steak all were deployed, and Matthew В. a novice salmon fisherman picked up a 22 pounds fish from Norway and thought...

Trout Fishing Week 29B – 2012

Big Trout K and Mystic L- Kola 2012, week 29 B (groupleader: Alekesander Andersen, Ole Petter Elvestad, Ole Hjalmar Gustavsen, Ragnar Jørgensen, Tom Wener Kristiansen and author B.Heiko Heincken) Nobody knows….it´s the TUNDRA! In 2008 I was on the Kola Peninsula for trout that also at that time was described as the world’s best trout paradise, and then went to Pina and Wulf. I had little or no faith in me to get in on the Kola peninsula again, but still I got this...

Trout Fishing Week 29C – 2012

Running Litza – First Knee Litza Trout Group: Ingar Hvitstein Hansen, Osmund Jensen, Svein Åge Hustuft, Tore Christensen, Leif Erik Larsen and Espen Elvestad (group leader) The helicopter left us in Running Litza at the evening of the 14th of July. The weather was nice and warm. With midnight sun and calm winds we went up and downstream the first night to get familiar with the river. We were not disappointed. With a little hatching (mostly small caddis) and some fish...

Kharlovka Fishing Week 28 – 2012

With the exception of that one afternoon when the skies suddenly turned dark and the fog rolled in off the sea making it very difficult to even see downstream let alone attempt to cast a fly, all in all, it was actually a very pleasant mid summer’s week of mild temperatures ranging from 7 to 15 degrees and partly cloudy skies. Obviously it must have been a few degrees warmer farther upstream on the tundra as the temperature of the rivers remained steady through the...

Rynda Fishing Week 27 – 2012

Guest Report by Roger Harrison Time has moved on but no one has anything but praise for the new owner Vladimir Rybalchenko and very little has changed. [This is a new helicopter that is fast and more comfortable and the sauna is transformed]. But apart from these improvements the staff are just as welcoming and friendly and the guides as expert and helpful as ever. The reduction in the number of rods is a great improvement and for mainly British party was enhanced by a mix...

Trout Fishing Week 28 – 2012

This year our group was a mix of swiss (2) and norwegian (4) flyfishers. Both Michael and Marco (CH) traveled directly from Switzerland to Murmansk, while we (the norwegians) traveled via Kirkenes to Murmansk in bus. Most of the group members were Kola-rookies and of course full of expectations. Marco & Michael from Switzerland The norwegians arrived at Murmansk on friday 6th of july by bus and stayed at Hotel Meridian where all the trout fishers leaving and arriving...

Kharlovka Fishing Week 27 – 2012

Although the weather and the water levels have been all over the place so far this season, last week the conditions were mostly bright and warm with a bit of wind and rain to freshen things up half way through the week. We started off with lots of bright sun and precious few scattered clouds about, with warm temperatures of 20+ degrees C as the rivers slowly warmed to a midweek high of 17 C on the home pool scale. After a bit of welcomed precipitation on Tuesday that was...

Rynda Fishing Week 26 – 2012

The Green Butt Brigade returns for the 12th year. Obviously, this is the first year without Peter, but it is still very much the Rynda we know, with all the smiles and familiar faces amongst the guides and camp staff. We are delighted to be back amongst friends! Arrived in bright, hot and cloudless weather with unusually low water conditions, more typical to later in the summer. However, despite the conditions Bruce kick started the week with a fantastic 27 pounder from...
