Kharlovka Fishing Week 36 – 2012

Kharlovka Report – Final week of the season ending 8th September. Over the last two weeks, time has slowed to a tranquil pace here above the Arctic Circle as the long white nights of summer have been replaced with thousands of stars and curtains of dancing green lights. Along with all those cherished mushrooms and tasty blue berries, there were also a lot of large aggressive salmon about! The Russians call this brief magical period ‘Zolotaya Osen’ or golden autumn as...

Kharlovka Fishing Week 35 – 2012

Three Rivers Programme – Kharlovka, Litza & Rynda Rivers – Kola Peninsula, Russia . WhereWiseMenFish Hosted Week – 25 August – 1 Sept 2012 I am sure I am not alone in saying that the quest for big fish is for many fishermen a mix between addiction and obsession. If you fall into either category then a week on the Atlantic Salmon Reserve may well be the drug that drives this lust to new lengths. Concerned… you should be for this week; the first of...

Rynda Fishing Week 31 – 2012

Summer time in the arctic moves at a fantastic pace. We have had a couple of small groups of good friends with us lately on the Kharlovka camp. The fishing has been so enjoyable that we have been using our fly rods – videos and cameras much more than our laptops and phones! The Northern Rivers and ASR staff are now resting for the next two weeks. In the meantime, please have a peek at our new Rynda Salmon teaser. All the best!...

Kharlovka Fishing Week 32 – 2012

Although it is true, that every week is special here on the Northern Rivers, last week was one that none of us will soon forget! Ever heard of the Loop Army? Well, we were all quite honored last week when their new fishing generals decided to helicopter into the Kharlovka camp to conduct their big board meeting! (photos by Justin and Dmitry) From those original breathable waders, to the large arbor loop reels, to their new and improved snappy Cross rods – there are...

Trout Fishing Week 32 – 2012

Dream Litza and Dream Kharlovka Back from another fantastic trip on the Russian tundra with exactly the same group as last year. We were all well prepared and thought we would know exactly what to expect. But ‘Tundra is Tundra’ and anything can happen… Group from left: Per Klaesson, Espen Klaesson, Nor Bjørlykke, Roy Refsnes, Eivind Hagen (Group Leader), Igor and Are Bjørlykke We started off in Dream Litza which was a new place for us. We were stunned by the nice...

Kharlovka Fishing Week 31 – 2012

Looking back to those last memorable days of July, we were pleased to have a small cozy group that consisted of a couple of old friends and a couple more new amigos. Although we were expecting eight eager anglers to show up that week, only half the lucky group ended up jumping off the helicopter ready for action. The other 4 seemed to be too busy or unfortunate to join the party and elected to stay home with recent job promotions, bad backs, and an most unfortunate last...

Trout Fishing Week 31A – 2012

Running Litza / Second knee Litza. A big happy family, consisting of: (from the left) Jan Iver Hansen, Sven Rudi Hansen, Torbjoern Johansen, Harald Odberg, Tore Hansen, Nikander Hansen, group leader Kurt Albertsen and the incredible Igor!! First timers to Kola. Everybody has been fishing with fly before, but wobblers and spoons have previously been preferred. This trip was a «back to flyfishing» experience. I think everybody agreed that it was a huge success… After...

Rynda Fishing Week 30 – 2012

Guest Report by Jonathan Chippindale The MI-8 flight from Murmansk to the Rynda is always a reflective time for me. The stress of clearing immigration has been successfully negotiated, rods and baggage have also made it and are safely on-board, and now a weeks fishing lies ahead on the most beautiful, unspoiled and mesmeric river I know – a river that Duncan and I have been privileged to fish continuously between us for 23 years. In London, we’d heard reports of less snow...

Kharlovka Fishing Week 30 – 2012

It has certainly been a magical ride this summer here on the Northern Rivers! Following several weeks of exciting shifts in the weather, including those epic rains to end the week before, the conditions seemed to have calmed back down now and it has been smooth sailing ever since. Fishing under mostly sunny skies with pleasant temperatures ranging from 13 to 25 degrees (and barely a single mozy to be seen), last week’s small, but lucky, team of three old English...

Rynda Fishing Week 29 – 2012

Guest Report by Andrew J Dillon The fun started early for the two groups comprising the six rods on the Rynda this week. During the stopover in Helsinki the southern Irish father and son team (Mick and Billy Lynch) managed to track their fellow (as yet to be introduced) rods (David, Carl, Omer and Andrew) to a fine Finish restaurant and after brief introductions and a few glasses of the ‘oh be joyful’ the craic commenced and didn’t stop all week. All rods were new to the...
