Kharlovka week 30 ending 25th of July
Moments ago the entire Kharlovka team was standing by near the lodge – waving hands to say goodbay and bon voyage to another great group. Our previous international team included two old friends from Iceland – Gretar and Hilli, Cedo from Slovenia, Graeme from Scotland, Mark from England and nine new dear French friends with a big merci beaucoup to Piam the group leader.
We started on Saturday with bright skies and warm temperature of 15.4C of air and water. Most half of the week – till Wednesday the weather was the same and water temperature reached 16.8C while the water levels dropped away steadily over the week to zero on our home pool scale. It’s got colder on Thursday with strong northern wind which made didn’t seem to help their casting or the presentations of the fly. Along with the tricky conditions, the week was quite challenging especially for our French team as most of them were fishing salmon on the fly for the first time.
Hilli opened our big fish list on the week with his 28-pounder caught on Litza on Monday. Together with Gretar. Although with a few mosquito bites they did consistently well and manage to land 23 salmon including memorable 18 and 20 pouders for Gretar and 16 and 24 pounders for Hilli.
Mark and Graeme were very determined and woke up at six almost every day to fish home pool. They did a great job and landed together 20 salmon including 16 pounder beauty for Mark and couple of fresh 15 pounders for Graeme. These guys were having a great time here in the camp and on the river with their guide Volodya, enjoyed the helicopter rides and promised us all that we would see them again next year.
There was lots of personal bests caught on the week – we were pleased to congratulate Cedo with his 14 pounder from Litza falls, 15 pounder from Kharlovka Golden Pool for Domimique, Phillippe’s 17 pounder caught on Litza tent pool, Gilles’ 18 with his pounder from lower Litza and also Gerard for his 20 pounder from Kharlovka fall caught on Friday.
With the shallow and quite water it was all about the speed of fly. We used small and micro flies like Wiilie Gun, Cascade, Frances but the most deadly one was Frederic‘s secret fly called Bonya – with a help with this small fly Frederic managed to bit his personal best twice – at first with his bright fresh 19 pounder on Kharlovka home pool and then with his huge 30 pounder from Litza flat stone on Thursday which became the biggest fish of the week and the reason to be proud and happy for Frederic. He promised to came back and get the bigger one next year!
Although the challenging conditions on last week our team managed to land 144 in total by Friday. And while some of them are already eating their dinner at home four of our new French friends – Jean, Gerard, Philippe and Piam will be continuing their exciting adventure on the Northern Rivers staying one more week on Rynda along with another new friend.
Thanks for all our guest for another fantastic week here on Kharlovka – it was a real pleasure to meet you all and we all look forward to seeing you again!
We are all excited and ready to welcome here new group for next week – youth program on Kharlovka.
See you soon!
