Kharlovka week 29 ending 20th of july 2018

The heat wave that has been affecting UK – Scandinavia and much of Europe (and other places) has finally reached the Arctic circle on the far northern coast of the Kola Peninsula.

1.5 Kharlovka Falls

While guests arrived last week to mild temps that started off pleasant in the low teens, bright sunny conditions and warm southern breezes proceeded to push up the mercury well into the 30′s for the remainder of the week. The rivers followed suit dropping 9cm and warming into the low 20′s.

Nevertheless, fishing results remained surprisingly consistent throughout with the team going on to land 129 salmon on the week. The hot challenging conditions this season were in sharp contrast to the July conditions from the previous year when the rivers were running fresh at record high levels that produced 347 salmon on the week. Top flies again were Golden Killers and Sun Rays – with some green highlanders and one was tempted on a nymph..

Honourable mentions goes out to our good friend Rashid who looks forward to getting back to the tundra with his son Timur every summer.

And while many of the other experienced guests on this week now only bother to pull their cameras out for the Big one – special thanks goes out to Vasiliy – Maria and Vladislav for catching some of their first family fish ever!
