Kharlovka week 26 ending friday 30th of June 2017
Notice from the authorities of a late decision to conduct naval exercises off the controlled zone within which we operate, necessitated some last minute changes to the teams of guests at ASR last week. Whilst our overseas friends for this specific week only therefore had to postpone their week’s fishing in 2017 until a little later in the season, our many friends who have less restricted access were able to join camp and enjoyed some improving fishing.
Nevertheless, our new group of friends arrived to challenging conditions on the opening weekend with chilly air temps that reached to 5C – with water temps of 2.5C – along with swollen rivers measuring out at 117cm on the home pool scale – which is still about 90cm above normal for this time of the year. Although the rivers dropped 3cm over the first weekend, warming air temps caused the rivers to slowly rise during the first half of the week before finally peaking again for the last time. Water levels slowly dropped away to finish the week with a final level of 98cm on the home pool scale. Spring was finally changing to summer – as water temps warmed over the week from 2.5C to up to 7.6C.
Highlights were all over the place last week starting with Sergey who got the party started with an excellent 27.5 pounder off the lower Kharlovka. Following some encouragement Sergey snapped a great photo of his second 27 pounder off the lower Litza. Nice brace..
Also some nice shots along the way from Oleg – Ivan and Sergey
Honourable mention also goes out to Alexey who had many good fish and also to Sofia who listened to Big Alex and learned quickly releasing couple including this beautiful new P.B. 15 pounder on the lower Kharlovka.
And big Congrats to Oleg for breaking his P.B. (fish of the week) with this solid 30 pounder from the Barrel pool on his Black and Yellow fly.
Following an exciting week with 21 salmon including the fish of the week at 33 pounds – Vladimir was back for a second week on the mighty Kharlovka for round II – going onto release another 28 for a respectable 2 week total of 49 salmon that included 13 good fish over 20 pounds. However, Vladimir was more interested in keeping his fly in the water than taking photos of anything less than record size..
As the old saying goes, like father – like Son! Vladimir Jr. had a fine time again as usual keeping the group entertained as well as releasing 20 salmon including this pleasing 28 pounder one sunny morning off the lower Litza.
Following 3 previous years of low water and warm weather – the group was amazed when they arrived last week to such extreme high conditions. Nevertheless while there was a lot of high water – there was also a lot of big salmon coming in! Invading the camp Farlows shop and then adjusting quickly to the conditions, the group released 29 good salmon over the first short weekend. By the time all the saunas and big fish toasts were over – the group managed to tally up 154 including 18 over 20 – with 7 great fish over 25 – and a 30 pounder for the fish of the week. Nastarovia!
Saturday 1 July saw the return to normal access for our overseas friends restoring the international flavour of camp again. In fact, the new group enjoyed a great start with 60 salmon to welcome them back on the first weekend – as the season finally starts to gather momentum. Stay tuned!
