The mighty Kharlovka is open!

In contrast to last year’s unprecedented late spring high water conditions, our fishing friends were welcomed back to camp this season under more ‘normal’ conditions. Water levels on our first week started out at 91cm – dropping 34cm during the week down to 57cm on the home pool scale. To give you some idea, water levels topped out nearly a meter higher at 149cm on 23rd of June last season!

While the rivers were flowing nicely last week, anglers were challenged by chilly northern breezes and cool air temps in the single digits. Water temps rose slightly from an opening reading of 2.9C up to 3.7C on the final day.

Fishing started out slow during the opening weekend with strong winds, sleet and snow. The 8 guests all battled back during the week going on to land at least one good salmon each for a total of 14 salmon on the week – half of them were over 20 pounds!

Jason who manages the Farlows fishing shop back in London, got the party started early week on the lower Litza landing the first 16 pound salmon of the season.

Be careful what you wish for! Christian had to honour his promise to shave his beard after releasing his pleasing 20 pounder.

Honourable mention also goes out to our new Polish friend Tadeusz who battled for 15 minutes before lifting his new PB – 22 pounder.

And then there was Iwona who lifted her pleasingly bright silver 16 pounder for the camera – smiled and said HuRa!

There were reports on the last day of good numbers of salmon seen jumping through on the lower rivers.

We are back and so are the big salmon!

Next week will be interesting..
