Rynda week 31 ending 1st of August

This week Rynda has hosted a very interesting group of anglers from France. Most of them have never been at the Northern shore of Kola peninsula, and some have come for the salmon fishing for the first time. Of course, everybody admired the splendid scenery that greeted these new guests. The weather has demonstrated all its diversity. After the sunny and warm Sunday, on Monday the weather has started to change. The wind turned to the North, and in the evening Rynda was...

Rynda week 30 ending 25th of July

The superb fishing of week 29 was always going to be hard to follow but the team for last week made a commendable effort ending the week with a total well into 3 figures. A group substantially comprised of old Rynda stalwarts supplemented by new friends Daniel and Francois, continued to fish the whole system all the way up to Reindeer Crossing. Shortly after arrival during the first few hours of an evening’s fishing, we caught 10 salmon. Although the bright sun for much of...

Rynda week 29 ending 18th of July

It was a great and remarkable week! First, we had an amazing fishing. We caught and released more than 200 salmon, the biggest one being 28 pounds. Second, the fishing was not just productive, but, what is more important, very interesting. We have been fishing starting from Reindeer Crossing down to 10 Islands, wherein we’ve used all the possible versions of flies and fishing techniques. Fortunately, the water temperature (11C) and still high water level enabled this. Of...

Rynda week 28 ending 11th of July

Report by Sue Mills. Another splendid week is over. Wonderful people, magnificent nature and lots of fishes caught. Vodka shots toasting successes, failures and jokes were frequent during a relaxed week when new friends were quickly made. Amongst achievements celebrated were those of: Oleg and Alena, experienced anglers from Novosibirsk in Siberia catching their first Atlantic salmon on their first evening. Thereafter Oleg specialised in larger sizes, including the fish of...

Rynda week 27 ending 4th of July

It came as something of a surprise for old hands, Peter and Christopher, arriving their usual week to find Rynda’s summer had not yet started – snow was visible everywhere and the fish were concentrated in the lower river with only advance parties above Home Pool. A small but select party of eight fishers from Russia and England – Ivan, Dmitri and Igor; Peter, Christopher, Richard, Roger and Alastair (observed by Norwegian friends Ola and Ivar) got to grips with the colder...

Rynda week 26 ending 27th of June 2014

At the Northeast of the Kola Peninsula the weather is still unstable. A few warm days turned to long periods of severe cold, non-stop rains and strong northern wind. The air temperature dropped to 3C, and sometimes the rain turned to the snow. During the last week, the water was stable but cold at +6C, and the level dropped for 12cm.Although still remarkably high for this point in the season, the level has now fallen to a point at which many more of the lower pools are now...

Rynda week 25 ending 20th of June 2014

The fickle nature of the opening to the season continued into the third week, with weather conditions being variable. A day or so of promising improvement, quickly followed by cold north winds the next driving temperatures down again. Starting from Monday the weather went bad, and until the end of the week a strong northern wind 18 m/s didn’t stop. With the air temperature 3-4Сand the strong rain, sometimes even snowing, it made the fishing very complicated. However, our...

Rynda week 24 ending 13th of June 2014

Picture by Justin Prichard Last week our guests could see the whole specter of the spring weather in tundra. The south wind brought some warmth and high-cloudy weather, and the next day the wind direction changed to the northern with piercing cold of the Arctic. On Saturday, which is the arrival day, the wind brought deep fog, and due to the non-flying weather, our guests were delayed for one day in Murmansk. By their arrival on Sunday, the river finally stopped rising,...

Rynda week 23 ending 6th of June 2014

The last two seasons have seen fishing at Rynda opening in highly unusual conditions with summer – like water levels and water temperatures.  As an illustration, 31 May 2013 saw the water temperature at a record high of +9C with a very low water levels.  By contrast, the 2014 season has opened to conditions far more usual to our latitude. The highest recorded levels of water in the snow blanket for the last 18 years resulted from substantial late snow falls in April....
