Trout Fishing Report 3D – 2018

Canoeing Rynda river. We started the canoe trip at Torismann lake. The weather was nice and warm. There were not many insects hatching the first two days, but enough mayflies to give everybody fun dry fly fishing. The third day we had an enormous caddis hatch, with no fish rising. Even flies fished deep were rejected. On Tuesday evening we decided to move about 7 km downstream. On Wednesday the weather changed with winds and some rain. This gave us a very good day of dry...

Trout Fishing Report 2B – 2018

We started at Big Trout with great expectations. I have been there several times during the same week of the year with great success. The spring had come and everything looked right. The strange thing was that nothing was hatching and we saw almost no insects in the bushes. The colour of Kharlovka was murky, maybe because of a very strong wind and great waves on the lake. The total amount of fish for the group at Big Trout was only 11 trout, most of them taken a few hours...

Kharlovka week 28 ending 13th of july 2018

This week we welcomed a hugely international group of fishermen to Kharlovka Camp, where our tent poles were adored with the flags of Russia, the United States, Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia and Japan. It’s a wonderful thing when a love of salmon fishing is able to connect people from all corners of the globe. Fishermen were greeted by extremely favourable overhead conditions at the beginning of the week – overcast skies and cool air...

Rynda week 27 ending 6th of July 2018

186 fish – this was the fishing result for our Rynda anglers last week! The weather was friendly during the week. Warm days mixed nicely with cloudy and windy days. Water temp moved from 7C to 12C, the level was constantly dropping 2 cm per day. And by the end of the week the water level reached quite low figures. Such conditions were very comfortable for fishing and let us use wide range of fishing techniques – from sinking lines to surface flies. Of course, fishing on the...

ASR web report for weeks 25 and 26 ending Friday 29 June

Young fishers visit the ASR. Unfortunately we received short notice that the military authorities would conduct operations within the restricted zone of the Northern Kola Peninsula during the two week period of 16th – 30th June 2018. As a consequence, we were deeply disappointed not to be able to welcome our regular guests/friends on to these weeks. However, Vladimir and the staff were delighted to be able to seize the chance to provide a unique and unexpected opportunity...

Rynda week 24 ending 15th of June 2018

International team of anglers was fishing this week at Rynda! We welcomed our old and new friends from 6 different countries. On Sunday Chuck rose the bar quite high by landing beautiful sea liced 24 lbs at Croy Pool. The rest of the week Chuck did well and landed 9 fish in total. Good job! The weather this week was not easy for fishing. Low Rynda is an open place and all the week Northern winds chilled to the marrow. The air temp was hanging around 5C. Only the last day –...

Rynda week 23 ending 9th of June 2018

Last week Rynda camp welcomed our six old friends from France, Switzerland, United Kingdom and Russia. The photos can’t reflect the tough conditions which fishermen faced during the week. The air and water temperature were not far from 0C. By the end of the week the water temp finally reached 4C. The strong northern wind with sleet and hailstone were regularly testing the fishing spirit of our anglers. Water level wise the week was ok. The peak of the flood this...

Kharlovka week 23 ending 8th of June 2018

Kharlovka web report for the week 23 ending Friday 8 June Cool conditions and silver springers all round! Wind – rain – sleet and snow with air temps in the low single digits couldn’t hold back our latest group of mostly ASR veterans who managed to release 60 good salmon during the week. Water temps rose slightly from 4.2C up to 5.8C before cooling back down to 4.6C on the final session – while the water levels slowly dropped 14cm during the week...

Kharlovka week 22 ending 1st of June 2018

The mighty Kharlovka is open! Photo of frozen tundra and lakes approx 30 south of Barents Sea. Very little snow remains along the coast. In contrast to last year’s unprecedented late spring high water conditions, our fishing friends were welcomed back to camp this season under more ‘normal’ conditions. Water levels on our first week started out at 91cm – dropping 34cm during the week down to 57cm on the home pool scale. To give you some idea, water...

Happy Holidays

Dear Friends Following the exceptionally cold winter across much of Europe and the UK, we wanted to send you all an early spring update to let you know how the upcoming season is beginning to take shape. The recent end of the long polar nights heralded the first opportunity to make a significant visit out to the camps to take stock of things. In contrast to the unprecedented 80 year high snow pack from last year, so far the conditions this winter on the far north coast have...

Trout Fishing Report 5D – 2017

Finally the date for our annual Kola trip was here! I woke up with a smile on my lips, full of expectations. Then I got a message from Aeroflot: “Your flight has been cancelled”. All of a sudden everything felt bad. What would happen now? Well, to make a long story short – we took a later flight to Moscow and with only a few minutes to go, we managed to board the flight to Murmansk! In Murmansk we waited by the luggage band and saw five, not seven, of our bags turning up....

Trout Fishing Report 8A – 2017

“Just came back home from my best ever trip on the Tundra. I have been there 10 years now but this year trip was beating all my (and my group members) expectations. I could just have showed some pictures in this report because they tell more than a thousand words, but hear out the executive summary first: i. Biggest trout 5.3 kilo! ii. We got 6 fish over 4 kilo! iii. All group members got a + 4 kilo trophy trout! iv. We got 19 fish over 3 kilo! v. 4 out of 5 members...
