Kharlovka 1st Farlows/Sportfish hosted Week 32 ending 8th of August

The inaugural Farlows/Sportfish hosted week got off to a fabulous start with four salmon caught on the home pool within two hours of arrival by Andy Adams and Steve Hunt, memorable moments as Steve was waving to the departing rods in the helicopter whilst playing a 14lb salmon. The week proved eventful and productive, testing even the more experienced anglers with water temperature climbing to 22 ◦C and air temperature recorded at over 30◦C towards the end of the week....

Kharlovka Youthweek 31 ending 1st of August

Last Saturday afternoon, under bright sunny skies and warm pleasant temps, we were delighted to welcome an eager group of 11 young men to the Kharlovka camp for our annual ASR Youth program.. While their was a couple of unfortunate last minute cancelations that included a father and son from Moscow, we were impressed with the enthusiasm of our international gang from England, Finland, Denmark and Russia. Not surprisingly they were full of energy and following the all...

Kharlovka week 30 ending 25th of July

Moments ago the entire Kharlovka team was standing by near the lodge – waving hands to say goodbay and bon voyage to another great group.  Our previous international team included two old friends from Iceland – Gretar and Hilli, Cedo from Slovenia, Graeme from Scotland, Mark from England and nine new dear French friends with a big merci beaucoup to Piam the group leader. We started on Saturday with bright skies and warm temperature of 15.4C of air and water. Most half...

Kharlovka week 29 ending 18th of July

We had another fantastic week here on the Northern Rivers with mostly sunny skies and more impressive numbers of bright fresh summer salmon up into the 20 pound class.  While Franz certainly took the prize for eating the most crabs and landing the largest fish of the week at 31 pounds (photo is supposedly in the mail), we would like to congratulate young Cornelius who is only 13 (along with his proud father Ulrik for introducing his young son to the big time) for going on...

Kharlovka week 28 ending 11th of July

We had another exciting week here on the Northern Rivers with great numbers of beautifully fresh fat summer salmon that ranged into the upper teens along with plenty of shinny grilse that were pouring into the system. Vladimir and his son Vladimir both kick started the week off right by landing eight salmon each on the pools of the upper Kharlovka last Saturday morning before flying back to greet the new incoming guests and then departing on back home after lunch. Following...

Kharlovka week 27 ending 4th of July 2014

Fantastic week! Last Saturday under dark wet and windy skies, Vladimir and Bruce set the tone by landing a nice brace of 30 and 32 pounders. Not long after the big helicopter touched down on the Kharlovka pad with six more of Vladimir’s family and friends. While we were expecting a limited group of 12 rods, it was not all that surprising when several of the other high level ministers and businessmen were called away at the last moment and were unable to attend our...

Kharlovka week 26 ending 27th of June 2014

Big fish like nasty conditions! Last Monday after warming up in the lodge with a hot bowl of fish soup, the newest addition to our ASR guide team Sergey Smirnov (an experienced tundra man who was Peter’s personal guide many years ago) along with our vip friend, wisely decided to wander back down to the mighty Kharlovka Home pool. Not long after Volodya arrived to point out the hot spots, they were into something very serious. A twenty minute battle ensued with the...

Kharlovka week 25 ending 20th of June 2014

Last Saturday the boys were welcomed back to the Kharlovka camp under mostly sunny skies and mild temperatures. Then following a beautiful Father’s day Sunday, dark clouds began to reappear on the horizon and the weather soon took a drastic turn for the worse. For the next five days the team was seriously challenged by cold air temps ranging from 1 to a maximum of 7 degrees, steady winds from the north along with persistent rain that at times turned into large slushy...

Kharlovka week 24 ending 13th of June 2014

Following an opening week with mostly sunny skies and pleasant temps, last Saturday the arctic winds shifted drawing in cooler air and foggy conditions from the north. While the skies in Murmansk were clear for our departure, we had to return back to the big city on the first evening to wait for the visibility to improve along the remote north coast. All rested up and ready to go our friends arrived safe and sound to the Kharlovka camp the following afternoon. It takes a...

Kharlovka week 23 ending 6th of June 2014

Springtime above the arctic circle has always been for believers only! Following the three early seasons including last year’s record high temps and low water conditions, this year the boys returned back to the Kharlovka camp to find more typical spring conditions to open the first week of the season. While there was certainly more snow and ice lying about than normal, we were not excepting the weather conditions to be so pleasant with mostly sunny skies, warm...
