THE ATLANTIC SALMON RESERVE

The Atlantic Salmon Reserve was founded in the year 2003 by Peter C. Power who was appointed “Adviser (Sovetnik) to the Governor for International Tourism” in June, 2007. The ASR is the world's first conservation area for Atlantic Salmon, Sea Trout & Wild Brown Trout and Arctic Char. Fly fishing is available on the Kharlovka, Eastern Litza, Rynda and Zolotaya rivers through the Northern Rivers Company in Russia where the territory is known as:

"Admittedly, 'catching fish', as has often been pointed out, is by no means the be-all and end-all of angling. Is it not rather the surmounting of difficult problem coupled with delightful surroundings and pleasant company which is the over-riding attraction? Does not the appreciation of and the attempt to understand all that lives in or around the river also count for a great deal? Likewise the self-control which is necessary if the fisherman is to arrive at even a moderate level of skill, and the ability to submerge individual aspirations, intense though they may be, in the camaraderie of angling friends and companions".

Click on picture to enlargeOne of the aims of the Atlantic Salmon Reserve (ASR) is to help young people find happiness and fulfillment in harmony with nature through fly fishing for salmon. If this great sport of fly fishing for salmon is to flourish in the future it must be seen as a force for environmental protection and, most importantly, attract the new generation.

The ASR Youth Program comes about through the friendship and shared ideals of Orri Vigfusson, Chairman of the North Atlantic Salmon Fund and Peter Power, founder of the ASR.

Click on picture to enlargeFor many years salmon fishing has been in decline due to human greed and interference but organizations such as the NASF and ASF are now redressing the balance. The ASR has become the exemplar of what can be achieved when the inland salmon environment is protected from the damaging effects of man. The ASR Youth Program is designed to attract and inspire young people to sustain an interest in the sport of salmon fishing by giving them the opportunity to experience at an early age quality fishing as our ancestors knew it and to encourage their interest in helping to restore the sport to its former glory worldwide.

APPLICATIONS:

  • Any young person from the age of 18 to 31 years of age may apply for the Tundra Adventure programs. As a general rule those over 25 years of age go to Kharlovka and those under to Rynda.

  • The program is generally designed for young people who have not been before and who might not otherwise be able to afford to do so. However we will consider a limited number of returning rods.

  • Successful new applicants are likely to have studied this website and to have been chosen from a written email application and a subsequent telephone chat.

  • Boys and girls of 14 to 17 are included in the scheme in any camp at any time outside of the Tundra Adventure weeks provided they are sharing a rod with a guardian who is paying full price and on the understanding they may be sharing a twin bedded cabin.

  • The reduced price for the Russian holiday starting in Murmansk, will be the equivalent of the applicants age multiplied by US$90 (approx £62). This means the approximate cost in £’s for an 18 year old would be £1117 whereas a 25 year old would pay about £1552. A 14 year old sharing with his or her parent would only cost about £869.

We wish to express our thanks to the NASF, ASF, Shooting Times, Fly Fishing & Fly Tying, Trout & Salmon and The Field magazines together with Michael Daunt of the Falkus School of Speycasting daunt@falkusfishing.com for the publicity they have given to our ASR Youth Program making it an outstanding success.
